Derry anaesthetist and equality campaigner receives prestigious BAPIO award

Dr Mukesh Chugh was presented with the National Award for Outstanding Contributions to Equality and Diversity

Dr. Mukesh Chugh, a highly respected Consultant Anaesthetist based in Derry, has been honoured with a prestigious national award at the recent British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) Annual Conference in London.

The three-day conference, held from November 28 to 30, celebrated excellence and leadership across the UK’s medical community and featured representatives from multiple Royal Colleges, the British Medical Association (BMA), and the General Medical Council (GMC).

As part of a national honours ceremony, Dr. Chugh was presented with the National Award for Outstanding Contributions to Equality and Diversity. This accolade specifically recognises individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, advocacy, and a profound impact in promoting fairness and inclusion within the healthcare sector.

Commenting on the honour, Dr. Chugh said: “This award holds special significance for me because it comes from an organisation that has championed equality and diversity for many, many years. It means more than I can express.”

BAPIO continues its long-standing commitment to advancing clinical excellence, promoting inclusive leadership, and supporting the diverse workforce that underpins the strength of the NHS.
