No device found as Derry security alert ends

An overnight security alert in the Skeoge area of Derry has ended.
Following a report to police shortly after 12.30am this morning, 20 November, that there was a device in the area of Glenabbey Close, a public safety operation was implemented and a number of homes were evacuated. Following attendance by Ammunition Technical Officers, and a search of the affected area, no device the nature of what was reported was found. Cordons have been lifted and residents are able to return home.
Superintendent Sinead McIldowney said: "This incident has caused serious upheaval for residents who have had to leave their homes during what was a bitterly cold night. It caused disruption for people trying to get to their work this morning and children attending school, as well as businesses in the immediate area unable to open. 
"Our thanks to everyone who was impacted, and who worked with us as we dealt with this situation. We know how disruptive these situations are, however, public safety is at the forefront of everything we do, and we cannot take any chances with these type of incidents. 
“Those responsible for causing what has been significant disruption, have no care or regard for the community and the people whose lives they are disrupting.
"We appeal to anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 42 of 20/11/25."
