Patsy Duffy shot dead by British Army in 1978
A commemoration will take place in Derry this Sunday to mark the 47th anniversary of the death of Patsy Duffy, shot dead by undercover British soldiers in 1978.
The event, organised by the 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32CSM) in conjunction with the late IRA Volunteer's family, will involve a wreath-laying ceremony at his grave in the Republican plot of the City Cemetery at 1.00pm on Sunday.
Mr. Duffy, who was 50 at the time of his death, was shot 14 times in the back by undercover soldiers on Maureen Avenue on November 24 1978.
In a statement regarding the event, 32CSM said: “The nauseating spectacle of those who claim to represent the legacy of volunteers such as Patsy Duffy, now openly attend British royalist and imperialist events like the coronation of the British King and commemorative British Army ceremonies, the very same people responsible for the death of Patsy Duffy.
"It is therefore important that the sacrifice made by Patsy Duffy and all those who died in pursuit of Irish self determination are remembered with pride and dignity."
