A man who has a 'shocking record' does not want to be 'the oldest prisoner in Maghaberry Prison' his solicitor told Derry Magistrates' Court.
Martin Boyd (64) of Jack Allen Court in Derry admitted two charges of disorderly behaviour in licensed premises and common assault that occurred on June 25, 2023.
The court heard a police patrol saw a fight in the doorway of a bar in Duke Street involving the defendant.
They interviewed the injured party who said there had been an altercation and Boyd had punched her.
When arrested Boyd made counter allegations claiming he had been in an argument with his former partner and then three men had become involved.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had 'a very bad record' but had stopped offending twenty years ago.
He said Boyd did not intend to return to his old ways as he did not want to be the oldest prisoner in Maghaberry.
Deputy District Judge Alan White said Boyd had a bad record often caused by too much alcohol.
He said he would give him a break and ordered him to pay the woman £100 in compensation and fined him £100.
