The annual Ulster-Scots Language Week was officially launched this week at the Guildhall by the Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Niree McMorris.
The launch event was attended by key figures dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the language and culture, including William Olphert, Director of Education and Language with the Ulster-Scots Agency, Derek Rainey, Community Development Officer with the Ulster-Scots Agency, and Pól Ó Frighil, Policy Officer – Languages with Derry City and Strabane District Council.
Ulster-Scots Language Week 2025 is scheduled to run from Monday, November 24 to Friday, November 28.
A variety of events and activities designed to promote awareness and appreciation of the Ulster-Scots language and its associated culture are expected to take place throughout the council area during the week.
