The two sons of Mrs. Elizabeth Coughlin, a former Principal of Greenhaw Primary School, visited the school on Monday and handed over a donation in memory of their late mother to the current principal, Mr. Shaun McLaughlin.

David and Gareth Coughlin are both former pupils of the school from the 1970s/80s and said they were delighted not only to revisit Greenhaw, but to also give something back to a school that had nothing but wonderful memories for them and their late mother.

Thanking the Coughlin family for their donation, Principal, Mr McLaughlin said he was delighted that David and Gareth had taken time out from their busy schedules to call in and present the cheque.

"On behalf of everyone at Greenhaw I would like to thank David and Gareth for their wonderful contribution to our school funds.

“It’s even more appreciated because of their affiliation to Greenhaw and the fact their late mother Mrs. Coughlin was a much-loved principal by all who knew her. I’m sure today’s visit was an emotional experience of both sad and joyful reminiscence for both of them."

A school assembly on Monday saw the two gentlemen present the cheque and fondly remember their days at the school as well as a visit to some of the classrooms that were home to them during their years at the school.

Speaking of their late mother, son David said Greenhaw always held a special place in her heart.

"Mum loved Greenhaw Primary School and her many years here. It was special to her. She loved the children, the staff and the many families that came through the doors during her time.

“It is only fitting that this donation goes to help support the education of the children at the school. A massive thank you to Mr. McLaughlin, staff and pupils for the wonderful reception they gave us today."
