The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council has congratulated council teams after the district was named winner of the Large Town/City category in this year’s Translink Ulster in Bloom Awards, recognising their hard work and dedication in making the area vibrant and welcoming for both residents and visitors.

The Ulster in Bloom competition, organised annually by Translink in partnership with the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA), celebrates the outstanding gardening achievements of local councils, community groups, and volunteers across the region.

Speaking following the announcement, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, congratulated all those involved in securing the accolade: “This award is a fantastic recognition of the hard work, dedication, and collaboration shown by our council teams, local volunteers, and community groups.

"Their commitment to maintaining and enhancing our public spaces reflects the pride we all share in our district. I would like to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone who contributed to this well-deserved success.”

The award highlights Derry City and Strabane District Council’s continued dedication to promoting environmental sustainability and civic pride, ensuring the district remains one of the country’s most attractive and welcoming places to live, work, and visit.

This year’s awards ceremony took place at the impressive new Belfast Grand Central Station, where representatives were honoured for their efforts in enhancing their local environments through creativity, sustainability, and community spirit.
