'Waterside Together' brisk dander up Corrody Hill at night!

Over a dozen hearty souls took part in Thursday evening’s ‘Dusk Dander’ up Corrody Hill in the city’s Waterside as part of the Waterside Together’s schedule of events, led by Lorcan McBride, from adventure crew Far and Wild.

The group left just after 7.30pm from the Hillcrest Trust premises and made their way to the aptly named Iskaheen View, renowned for its stunning elevated views over the city and the winding River Foyle.

There were given a brief talk on the history of the area and the hills the city was built on by Lorcan McBride, tour guide and Director of Far and Wild.

From there, they made their way up Corrody Hill and into the parkland that overlooks the city, where further discussions were had on numerous landmarks that could be seen from the high viewpoint.

The two-hour trek was enjoyed by all the participants with positive feedback to organiser, Tansy Cowley, Project Coordinator for Waterside Together.

"We all came well equipped for what was ahead of us and thankfully the temperature was in double digits even when we finished the walk. A massive thank you to Lorcan and Michelle, who guided us, especially when it got dark! We all got back to Hillcrest and a warm cuppa and a scone were welcome refreshments."

The event was organised by the Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership’s ‘Waterside Together’ project, which is supported by PEACEPLUS (a programme managed by the Special EU programmes Body – SEUPB) and funded under the theme of Community Regeneration and Transformation, and it is also funded through Derry City and Strabane District Council’s PEACEPLUS Local Co-Designed Action Plan.

‘Waterside Together’ is a shared spaces event and festival project aiming to reanimate spaces that are perceived as belong to the ‘other community,’ transforming them into areas that are open, welcoming and safe for all the Waterside community.

The Waterside Together Festival has been running all week and finished on Friday. More programmes will continue to run for all ages throughout the year and details can be found on Instagram @watersidetogether or by emailing watersidetogether@gmail.com/ 028 7134 2959.
