The Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Ruairi McHugh, joined a team of community volunteers this week to plant some beautiful blooms to brighten up Creggan.
Creggan in Bloom is a project led by the Creggan Neighbourhood Management team with support in-kind from Derry City and Strabane District Council. Volunteers from businesses, schools, community groups and youth clubs have been working together to plant 40,000 spring bulbs throughout the Creggan Urban Park area.
The flowers will help highlight a new walking trail which will be launched in partnership with Seán Dolans GAA club.
The project aims to enhance wellbeing in the area by engaging local people in outdoor activity and providing an opportunity to contribute to improving the local environment.
Mayor McHugh praised the efforts of all those who are involved, saying: “It was a real pleasure to join the volunteers and see the incredible community spirit that is driving this initiative. Projects like Creggan in Bloom show the power of local people coming together to improve their surroundings and create a sense of pride in place.
