Banned Derry driver found driving vehicle bearing 'false plates'

A vehicle was seized by police in the city on Friday evening after discovering the driver was currently banned from driving.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Officers from the District Support Team in Derry stopped a white Vauxhall Insignia car as they patrolled in the Galliagh Road area late on Friday evening.

"A check was carried out on the female driver of the car and it was quickly established that she is currently banned from driving.

"After further enquiries were conducted it was found that the car was bearing false plates and that the vehicle had no certificate of insurance in place.

"The car was then seized and the woman will be reported to the Public Prosecution Service in relation to the matter.

"Everyone has a responsibility to ensure that they, and the vehicles they drive, are legal and fit to be on the road. Please play your part as road safety is everyone’s responsibility."
