Planning sought for Health and Care Centre on the former Fort George site

The Western Health and Social Care Trust has submitted a planning application for a proposed new Cityside Health and Care Centre on the former Fort George site in Derry, to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

The exact location given on the planning application (LA11/2025/0529/F) is land at Pennyburn Roundabout, to the East of Strand Road, North of 173, Strand Road, and South of Catalyst Innovation Centre, Bay Road.

The facility will include a multi-storey car park, site access roads, and associated landscaping, with additional public realm works including a pedestrian link to the Quay Trail, which runs along the western bank of the River Foyle. 

The application also encompasses proposed infrastructure works including an upgrade of the Pennyburn Roundabout to include additional lanes and associated junction improvements to support the development of the site. 

Consultation on the proposal is currently underway with: Department for Infrastructure Roads (Derry City and Strabane office); Department for Infrastructure Rivers; Foyle Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission; NI Water (Strategic Applications); NI Water (Multi Units West - Planning Consultation); Shared Environmental Services; NI Environmental Agency; and Environmental Health, Derry City and Strabane District Council.
