A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with stealing a charity box belongings to Foyle Search and Rescue.
Matthew Grant (22) of Hawthorn Drive in Derry was charged with stealing the box on July 6 last year in a crime that was described by District Judge Ted Magill as 'very, very unpleasant'.
Grant was arrested after being seen on CCTV wearing similar clothing to a man who had been seen earlier in the day stealing the box.
He was also identified by a witness who noticed his clothing and heard coins rattling before seeing him discard a Foyle Search and Rescue charity box.
Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that Grant, who is currently in custody, has got himself a number of jobs in prison and is trying to turn his life around.
He was sentenced to four months in custody to be added on to his current sentence.
