Derry City and Strabane District councillor Grace  Uí Niallais (Sinn Féin) has welcomed confirmation Council has allocated capital funding to allow the construction of a new community centre in the Glenview area.
Ms Uí Niallais who respresents the Glen and Rosemount area said: "I am delighted that after years of lobbying and planning, the Glen Development Initiative has been allocated funding to allow the construction of a new community centre at Glenview.
"The current ageing facility will be replaced by a brand-new state of the art centre which will cater for the numerous user groups from the area.
 
"As the councillor for the area and the chair of the council's Governance committee which passed the item this week, I am absolutely delighted that we have reached this stage of the process. I look forward to the project receiving full planning permission in the coming months which will allow it to quickly move to the construction stage.
 
"I will continue to liaise with the local community as the project progresses."
