Man charged with arson with intent to endanger life returned for trial

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on charges of arson with intent to endanger life following a Preliminary Inquiry at Derry Magistrates Court.

Declan McDermott (51) of Gortnessy Meadows in Eglington was charged with the offence that was said to have occurred on January 15 this year.

It was accepted that there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

McDermott chose not to submit any statements and not to call any witnesses at this stage.

He was returned for trial in custody to Derry Crown Court on August 18.
