A woman has been remanded in custody on a charge of harassing her mother to give her 'money for drugs'.

Lauren Devine (22) of Fountain Hill in Derry appeared charged with harassing her mother on June 3 and breaching her bail.

A police officer told the court that Devine had been in court on Saturday morning and released with a warning and was arrested on Saturday night for breaching bail.

The court heard that police received an abandoned 999 call from the defendant's mother.

Police contacted her and she said her daughter had been 'torturing her for money for drugs' which had been refused.

Devine was then said to have left and went to her grandmother's before returning and sitting outside the house.

The mother said Devine was 'constantly asking for more money' even though she had already been given £250.

The police officer said that Devine had been given 'a clear warning' at her court appearance on Saturday morning but after her release police received a call from her mother and police found the defendant in 'an intoxicated state.'

The court heard that this was Devine's third breach of bail and she had 40 previous convictions and police had no confidence she would abide by conditions.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said the defendant was 'vulnerable' and had issues with drugs.

He said that there had been no 'aggressive or threatening behaviour'.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said the defendant had been given 'numerous opportunities' but continued to offend.

Devine was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear again on July 3.
