Two youth arrested in Derry after car driven on wrong side of road

Car abandoned after incident of 'dangerous driving' in Derry

Police in Derry made two arrests in relation to a road-related incident in which a car was reported to be driving the wrong way on Clooney carriageway on Thursday afternoon, May 29.

A 17-year-old male arrested has now been charged with offences including dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop for police, using a motor vehicle without insurance and no driving licence. He is scheduled to appear before Derry Youth Court on 17 June. 

As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. 

A 16-year-old male arrested has been released to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service in relation to offences including attempted arson and allowing self to be carried.  

The arrests were made after police received reports at around 4.20pm on Thursday, May 29 of a blue Renault Clio being driven on the wrong side of the Clooney carriageway, which failed to stop for officers.

The vehicle continued to drive in a dangerous manner in the Waterside area before crossing Foyle Bridge into the cityside.
