The final (Phase 4) section of essential infrastructure improvements works on the NI Water Foyle Street project is set to begin on Monday, June 2 at Water Street.
NI Water’s Foyle Street project, which got underway in August 2024, has involved the upgrade of the 100-year-old water and wastewater infrastructure between Shipquay Place and Water Street.
Over the last nine months, BSG has worked to install 400m of dedicated stormwater (rainwater) sewer and new foul sewer - to separate this section of the combined system - as well as 170m of new watermain. Over 50 connections to properties on Foyle Street were also undertaken to modernise the water and wastewater network in this part of the city.
A spokesperson for NI Water said: “The final (Phase 4) section of works on the NI Water Foyle Street project will start on Monday, June 2 at Water Street.
“There will be a lane closure on Water Street from its junction with Foyle Embankment to its junction with Foyle Street for up to two weeks. The section of Foyle Street at Iceland will also be closed.

“Traffic approaching Water Street from Foyle Embankment will be able to access Orchard Street or turn right onto Foyle Street. Traffic heading towards lower Foyle Street/Foyleside Shopping centre will be diverted.
“Access to Foyleside will be available from Foyleside Roundabout.

“To accommodate the necessary resurfacing works, Water Street will be closed each night from Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 20 between the hours of 8.00pm and 6.00am.
“NI Water and our project team from Arup and BSG are pleased to be five weeks ahead of programme on this important scheme and will continue to work as quickly as possible to complete this final phase of improvements.
“We thank businesses, residents and the wider public for their ongoing patience.”
