A 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday (May 9), on suspicion of attempted sexual communication with a child.

It comes after videos circulated online of a man being challenged by self-styled paedophile hunters in the Fountain area of Derry.

He remains in custody at his time.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said they take reports of this kind very seriously and investigate them fully, by gathering the best possible evidence and making contact with the Public Prosecution Service, where appropriate.

"We understand public concerns about the activity of paedophiles online and the danger they present to young children.

"However, we would reiterate that we strongly advise against the activity carried out by paedophile hunter groups and ask them to bring their evidence forward to our officers, so we can carry out full investigations.

"We ask parents who may have concerns about their child’s online activity and who they are communicating with, to contact police on 101."
