Derry Credit Union director Patricia Doherty
Derry Credit Union director Patricia Doherty has been elected to the prestigious role of Vice President of the Irish League of Credit Unions.
Posting on social media, a spokesperson for Derry Credit Union welcomed the news, saying: "Congratulations to new ILCU Vice President and DCU Director Patricia Doherty!
"We are delighted to inform our members that Derry Credit Union director Patricia Doherty has been elected Vice President of the Irish League of Credit Unions, following her recent election to the League Board.
"Patricia will join President Brendan Jenkins (Clones Credit Union) and Treasurer David McCauley (Donore Credit Union) in leading the movement for the next two years. We are confident that this team, supported by their fellow ILCU directors, will deliver a strong, sustainable and member-focused movement that is fit for purpose, relevant and will deliver for future generations."
The Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) is the largest credit union representative body on the island of Ireland and was founded in 1960.
The ILCU today has an affiliated membership of more than 270 credit unions in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
In 1964, John Hume became the youngest ever President of the ILCU aged 27 years, and served until 1968.
He remained involved in the credit union movement throughout his life despite the life changing peacemaking work he was involved in before being made a Life Director of the ILCU.
