Local community groups in the Foyleside DEA have come together to launch a billboard campaign as part of the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls campaign.
The campaign is funded by The Executive Office's Momentum Funding through Derry and Strabane District Council and was delivered by local organisations Dunluce Family Centre and Community Restorative Justice(CRJ).
The initiative was launched by the Outer West Community Safety Taskforce at their recent meeting.
The Community Safety Taskforce comprises of local community groups, the family support hub, youth workers, PSNI, Community Safety Wardens, NIHE and local housing associations who work to address issues around community safety in the Outer West Local Growth Partnership area.
Speaking at the launch, local area co-ordinator for CRJ Eamon McGinley, who chairs the Taskforce said that the boards would bring a focus to the campaign in the local community.
"Working with the local family support hub at Dunluce Family Centre we have developed this campaign which has included a programme aimed at young men which empowers them to challenge behaviours and attitudes among their peers and promotes positive masculinity. We also supported the international women's day event in the Glen Community Centre and delivered counselling to women in the local area"
"This billboard campaign will highlight the issue of Ending Violence Against Women and Girls in the local area and these boards will have been erected throughout the Foyleside DEA. We hope that this sparks conversations among local residents and helps to ensure that our community is a safe space for everyone."
