Dungiven's Glenshane Road open and passable following gorse fire

Firefighters were tackling the blaze close to the Glenshane Road over the Sperrin Mountains

Road users are advised that the Glenshane Road in Dungiven is open and passable following a gorse fire in the area on Saturday.

More than 70 firefighters were involved in tackling a gorse fire.

The blaze took hold close to the Glenshane Road over the Sperrin Mountains near Maghera.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area while firefighters work to bring it under control.

At the height of the operation, 10 fire appliances and 75 firefighters were deployed to the scene.

The response was being scaled back by Saturday evening.
