Derry Magistrates' Court

A man who admitted a charge of arson of a car will be sentenced on May 21.

Martin Patrick Murray (39) of Burnside Manor in Derry faced one charge of arson of the car being reckless if life was endangered that occurred on August 19, 2023.

The charge was said to be aggravated by domestic abuse.

When the charge was put to him Murray pleaded guilty.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Judge Neil Rafferty KC advised Murray to co-operate with probation in preparing that report.

He said that a risk assessment will be done and advised the defendant it was in his interest to be open with probation.

The judge released Murray on continuing bail but warned him that was no indication that he was not going to get a custodial sentence.
