Derry Magistrate's Court heard today that a decision had been taken to prosecute leading Derry dissident republican Thomas Ashe Mellon in the local court for breaching the anti Terrorism legislation.

Mellon (49) of Rathmore Road in Derry is charged with three counts of breaching the anti Terrorism legislation by failing to notify police about bank accounts.

The offences are alleged to have taken place on July 18 2018 and March 9 last year.

A prosecutor told the court that a decision had been taken to proceed summarily which means any contest will be heard in the Magistrate's Court instead of the Crown Court.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott asked for an adjournment to allow full prosecution papers in the case to be served.
