Derry Magistrates' Court
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with a number of drug and motoring offences.
Gerard Hargan (40) of St. Canice's Park in Eglinton was charged with, on November 1 last year, driving while unfit due to drink or drugs after police saw his stationary vehicle in the road while on patrol.
A police officer said they found Hargan to be intoxicated and discovered two needles and a bag that was said to have contained traces of a white powder.
After being granted bail for the initial offences, Hargan was again arrested on March 16 after police in Limavady allegedly found another two syringes and a rock of cocaine in his car.
When interviewed, Hargan admitted to being addicted to cocaine, telling police that he used to snort it but now, due to a related medical issue, has to take it via syringe.
Defence solicitor Stephen McNicholl told the court that this was his first breach of bail since being released in November, adding that there was no evidence that he was involved in the supply of the drugs found.
Bail was granted and he will appear again on April 15.
