Derry man remanded on charge of riot and criminal damage to a police vehicle

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a charge of riot and one of criminal damage to a police vehicle. 

David Montieth (36) of London Street in Derry appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court. 

He was charged with riot on July 9 last year and also with causing criminal damage to a police vehicle on the same date. 

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. 

Monteith said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage.

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on March 18 and remanded in custody.
