A woman who admitted stealing various goods valued at more than £7,000 from a shop 'over a prolonged period' has her case adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Shannon Clifford (40) of Duddy's Court in Derry admitted one charge of stealing 'sundry items' from Mace Express in Clooney Terrace valued at more than £7,000 on dates between October 24 2023 and April 24 2024.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that it was 'an excessive amount of money' and added that the defendant risked a custodial sentence.

Defence counsel Fergal McCormick said the thefts had been of small amounts over a prolonged period of time.

He said the defendant had issues with a gambling addiction but was not claiming to have stopped.
