Case against Derry man charged with 'serious sexual assault' delayed

The case against a man charged with what police described as 'a serious sexual assault' will be further delayed due to forensics Derry Magistrates' Court heard today. 

Emmett Deehan (32) of Fahan Court in Derry is charged with sexual assault and causing grievious bodily harm with intent on October 27 last.

A prosecutor told the court that the target date for the full file in the case had been for February 13 but he added that this date would not be met due to outstanding forensic tests.

Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said that 'forensics are crucial in this case' and added that he had not expected any progress at this stage.

Deehan, who is currently in custody,  will appear again on March 6.
