£250,000 fraud case involving Donegal woman adjourned at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrates' Court

A woman has been jailed at Derry Magistrates' Court after she breached a formal deferral by reoffending.

Patricia Quigley (36) of Rockmills in Derry had appeared on July 7 last and had her case deferred to see if she could avoid reoffending.

The court heard that on September 18 last year Quigley stole items valued at £70 from Iceland.

The court heard that Quigley also admitted various other thefts from shops as well as a drugs charge.

Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said he was aware that the court took 'a zero tolerance ' approach to breaches of deferrals'.

He said that the thefts were 'subsistence level offences' and asked for one last chance.

District Judge Barney McElholm said Quigley had had her last chance with the deferral in July.

He said it had been made very clear to her that any reoffending would result in her going to prison.

Quigley was sentenced to nine months in prison.
