A man who was said to have 'an obsession with the police station' in Derry has appeared at the local Magistrates' Court charged with breaching his bail by going to the station intoxicated.

John Paul O'Hagan (42) of Rinmore Drive in Derry was charged with breaching bail on January 18 by turning up at the Strand Road station asking to speak to someone and he was obviously intoxicated in breach of his bail.

A police officer told the court that this was an almost identical to a similar breach earlier this month when he again turned up at the police station intoxicated.

He said that the original charge related to a similar offence when the defendant had 'flashed' police outside the station on December 23.

The officer said that police wanted to stop O'Hagan drinking and going to the police station.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client must be the only person 'who actually wants to go to the police station'.

He said that he had spoken to his client and he said that he went to the police for help.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that the behaviour was 'bizarre' and told the defendant he knew he was not allowed to consume alcohol.

O'Hagan was re-released on bail to appear again on February 3.
