Suspended sentence for Donegal man at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrates' Court

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with breaching his bail conditions by having what a solicitor described as 'a massive reading' in a breath test.

Gareth O'Neill (33) of Waterloo Place in Derry was charged with, on January 16, breaching his bail conditions when he gave an alcohol reading of 179mgs with the legal limit being 35mgs.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that O'Neill 'clearly has a problem with alcohol' but was seeking treatment for his ongoing mental health issues.

Bail was not objected to and he was released on conditions that include prohibition from alcohol and illegal drugs.

He will appear again next month.
