Anyone who witnessed the attack or anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1561 28/12/24.

A report can be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Local DUP councillor Niree McMorris said: "Devastated to learn that a local woman was attacked in Irish Street Estate last night around 8pm in the Ness Gardens area.

"If anyone was in the area and saw anything suspicious please report it to the PSNI. Please also check any door bell cameras as any information could be important.

"Pease be careful and vigilant when out at night on your own. Hopefully this person will be caught and face the full force of the law. Violence against woman is not acceptable in our society.

"Stay safe."
