Derry Magistrate's Court
A man who told police officer 'you should not be in this country' has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court.
Luke Gallagher (23) of Grangewood in Strabane admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour aggravated by racial hostility at the Brunswick Superbowl on November 9.
The court heard that police were called due to the behaviour of a male, Gallagher.
Police observed him being followed by security staff who said he claimed to have a knife.
Gallagher was searched and no knife was found but in the course of being stopped the defendant became abusive to police.
He made racial comments towards one officer and was 'shouting and swearing' with members of the public in the vicinity.
Gallagher, who represented himself, told the court it was simply a case of having too much to drink.
He said he was 'absolutely appalled ' at his behaviour and offered 'sincere apologies.'
Gallagher was fined £200 and ordered to pay the police officer £400 in compensation.
