Police in Derry investigating a report of an assault in in the city centre shortly before midnight on Saturday, November 30, have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a report of an assault in the Sackville Street area of Derry shortly before midnight on Saturday, November 30.
"It was reported that after a verbal altercation, the victim was struck by another man and fell to the ground.
"Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and took the injured man to hospital for treatment.
"A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and he remains in custody at this time.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the assault or anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1965 30/11/24.
