Hundreds of students from Derry and Donegal were captivated by the fantastic Water Warriors event in Derry's Millennium Forum on Tuesday, 12 November.

Hosted by Lough's Agency, Water Warriors returned for its third consecutive year to deliver a blend of scientific exploration, entertainment and environmental awareness.

The celebrity scientist and TV presenter Mark 'The Science' Guy Langtry hosted the event and had the audience enthralled with scientific experiments and interactive onstage competitions involving students and teachers all while learning more about the vital role of water in the ecosystem.

The Water Warriors series also took place in Warrenpoint Town Hall and Omagh’s Strule Arts Centre in an effort to expand its reach to students across the Foyle and Carlingford regions.

Commenting on the return of Water Warriors, Loughs Agency CEO Sharon McMahon said: "We’re delighted to bring Water Warriors back for its third year, reaching three towns in the Foyle and Carlingford catchment areas. This initiative plays a vital role in educating local schoolchildren about critical environmental issues, including climate change, pollution, and biodiversity.

"By engaging young people through hands-on activities and educational games, we’re helping to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Seeing their enthusiasm and commitment is a true testament to the impact of this programme."

Water Warriors is just one initiative created by Lough Agency to educate and engage school children on the importance of environmental issues.

The interactive discovery tank, the Marine Machine Roadshow, has been travelling to schools in the Foyle and Carlingford areas in the past few months to allow children to discover local river species and engage in biodiversity games to address climate change.

In partnership with the arts based organisation Allegri, Loughs Agency also created a musical workshop wherein students took the lead in developing lyrics, singing and creating an environmentally-themed song 'Make It Better.'
