Health Minister whistle-stop visit to Women’s Aid Centre in Derry

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt MLA was in Derry on Wednesday morning and one of his stops was a visit to the Women’s Aid Centre in Bishop Street.

Alderman Darren Guy and Alderman Janice Montgomery accompanied the Minister and were given a guided tour of the premises by Women’s Aid Chief Executive Officer Marie Brown. 

During Wednesday’s visit the Minister also met staff and was given a detailed description of the current work and future plans to assist both women, children and men rebuild their lives after suffering whilst in abusive relationships. 

Speaking after the event, Alderman Darren Guy said: ‘It was humbling to hear about the amazing work Marie Brown and the team at The Women’s Aid Centre do in providing a safe space with a complete wrap around service for those fleeing abusive relationships.

‘Sadly, this service is very much-needed within our city and district, but it is reassuring knowing that Women’s Aid is providing such a high level of compassionate care and support.’
