Loughs Agency's Education Team has been busy engaging with communities across the Foyle and Carlingford catchments this summer, conducting Marine Machine and Macroinvertebrate workshops for learners of all ages and promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation for our valuable waterways.
The Marine Machine and Macroinvertebrate workshops have been the highlight of many events, capturing audiences' interest with immersive interactive experiences.
Throughout August, visitors at the Muff Festival, Greencastle Regatta and Cushendun Maritime Event had the opportunity to explore the fascinating organisms that inhabit our rocky shores. Using VR headsets, participants were immersed in underwater landscapes that provided a unique insight into the abundant marine life around us.
The Education Team also attended events such as the Healthy Oceans, Healthy Minds Event in Omagh, Hazelbank Youth Workshop and the Heritage Week Event in Convoy, where the public had the opportunity to become aquatic detectives and experience the hidden world of these crucial water quality indicators.
Equipped with magnifying glasses, participants explored the intricate ecosystems thriving beneath the surface of our rivers and lakes.
Speaking on the summer's success, Sharon McMahon, Loughs Agency Chief Executive Officer, said: "Education is pivotal to safeguarding our natural resources, and Loughs Agency is committed to inspiring future generations and engaging with local communities to ensure everyone understands the significance of preserving our beautiful waterways."
