A woman has been jailed by Derry Magistrates Court on charges including assault and drug possession.

Cheyenne Hazlett (21) of Moyglass Place in Derry was charged with, on January 24 this year, being in possession of a number of drugs after she appeared at a solicitor's office telling them she had taken diazipem.

While in the ambulance, she asked to get her bag. While getting it, police noticed a smell of cannabis and discovered upon searching it a number of diazipem tablets and cocaine.

She was also charged with, on September 14 last year, assaulting members of staff in Gransha Hospital.

Police found her in the smoking area after she had tried to self-harm, punching herself in the stomach while she was pregnant.

She then tried to bite members of staff when they tried to restrain her.

On April 18 this year, Hazlett was charged with fraud after she was said to have accessed a bank account belonging to her brother and taking out three sums of money, claiming that it was money that he owed her.

On May 24, she was also charged with failing to notify police of a change of address while on the sex offenders register, which she was put on for seven years after being charged with possession of an indecent image of a 17-year-old while she was 18.

She also failed to notify police that she had been using a different name.

Finally, on May 31, she was charged with criminal damage and possession of drugs after being arrested and spitting in a police car.

When searched, police found an MDMA tablet in her pocket and Hazlett was said to be volatile when interviewed.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that Hazlett suffered from 'chronic drug addiction', adding that she had been homeless when she was arrested and had been in custody since June 3.

She was sentenced to three months in custody.
