PSNI Chief Inspector John Caldwell

The Preliminary Enquiry of three men charged in connection with the claim of responsibility for the shooting of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh in February last year has been adjourned again at Derry Magistrate's Court due to 'a technical issue'.

Tiernan McFadden (26) of Carnhill, Caolan Brogan (24) of Bluebellhill Gardens and Joseph Anthony Campbell aka Farren (23) of Goshaden Cottages all in Derry all face two charges of possessing articles for use in terrorism and disseminating a terrorist publication namely the claim of responsibility for the shooting and threats of future violence against security forces.

Both offences were said to have occurred on February 26 2023.

The Preliminary Enquiry to decide if the case should go to the Crown Court was due to be held today but due to the technical issue it could not go ahead.

All three of the accused are on bail and the court was told that it was hoped the issue could be resolved by next week and the PE is scheduled for June 26.
