Derry Magistrate's Court
A man who admitted pushing his former partner downstairs and assaulting police has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Jordan Kavanagh (28) of Rathbrady Road in Limavady admitted the offences that occurred on September 10 last.
The court heard that police were called by Kavanagh who said he was arguing with his partner.
When police arrived a neighbour told them that they had witnessed Kavanagh push the female down some stairs.
When police approached Kavanagh 'abusive and aggressive' and lashed out at police.
He continued to be aggressive and then bit an officer on the hand.
At interview Kavanagh said the female had struck him first and then the court heard he became 'angry' with police.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that his client had been in custody since December and was on remand for more serious offences.
District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a restraining order for a period of four years and jailed Kavanagh for six months.
As he was leaving the dock Kavanagh shouted an obscenity and Judge McElholm imposed a consecutive two month prison sentence.
