Derry Walls to be celebrated with packed programme of events

The Friends of the Derry Walls, a local voluntary group, have revealed their programme of events for 2024. The activities range from guided tours, to talks, plus exhibitions, with at least one event occurring each month. Whilst the focus of the programme is on the 17th City Century City Walls, the events also explore the story of Derry's growth as a city and of the people who shaped it.

Niall McCaughan, Chair of The Friends of the Derry Walls stated: “We are delighted to launch a full events program for 2024, helping to continue to tell the story of our historic Walls.

"We are fortunate to have a great line-up of speakers from across Ireland who all bring their extensive experience and knowledge to our program for the year.

"The Friends of the Derry Walls is a voluntary organisation with the mission of becoming the voice of the Walls, raising ambitions for their care and presentation, driving public engagement with the Walls and ensuring that the Walls are fully exploited as a resource for educational, cultural and economic development.”

The programme starts this Saturday morning with a guided tour along the less-visited, eastern flank of the Derry Walls, starting at the Verbal Arts Centre on Stable Lane and ending in the Central Library on Foyle Street.
