Caroline Dickson was an architect with a rich and diverse portfolio of buildings
Tributes have been paid to Inishowen architect Caroline Dickson who has passed away after a short illness.
From Fahan, she ran a practice on Derry’s Clarendon Street which she established in 1971. Prior to that she worked with Scott Tallon Walker in Dublin, spent a year working in a practice in Greece, and also worked in Liam McCormick’s practice in Derry.
An architect with a rich and diverse portfolio of buildings, she had a particular interest in conservation architecture. She was the former diocesan architect for Derry and Raphoe, a role she held for 40 years, and she also worked on the stabilisation of Fahan Old Church, with the Fahan Heritage Group. A keen sailor, she was a former commodore of Lough Swilly Yacht Club.
In a tribute on social media, the Dioceses of Derry and Raphoe said that “throughout those four decades, she worked diligently on the diocese's behalf, displaying formidable expertise when it came to working on buildings of great historical significance”.
Last year, at the Diocesan Synod, a special presentation was made to Miss Dickson by Bishop Andrew Foster to acknowledge the outstanding service she had given Derry and Raphoe.
Miss Dickson's funeral will take place in St Mura's, Fahan, on Thursday at 2.30pm.
She was predeceased by her parents Christine and Peter Dickson and is sadly missed by her cousins, her fellow parishioners, her many friends and colleagues, and by the wider community in Fahan.
