Popular retired County Derry priest sadly passes away

The late Reverend Father Seamus O’Connell

A retired priest from County Derry has passed away. 

Reverend Father Seamus O’Connell died peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital, surrounded by his family, last night (January 13). 

Fr O’Connell, formerly of Ballerin and Maghera, lived in Altinure, Park. 

A death notice stated that “he was the beloved son of the late Patrick and Brigid. Much loved brother of Paddy, Gerard and the late Sean, Cahir, Anne McNicholl, Mairead Mulholland, Phyllis Convery, Maríe Scullin, and infants Betty, Therese and Martin.”

The death notice added: “Deeply regretted by sorrowing brothers, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Bishop McKeown, Priests and Parishioners of Derry Diocese.”

Fr O’Connell’s funeral arrangements have not been confirmed yet.
