A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with breaching his bail conditions during the wake of a relative.

Stephen Mongan (18) of Duncreggan Road in Derry, was charged with breaking a condition of his bail by having contact with his aunt.

The breach occured at a family wake following the death of his uncle.

Police were called and the court heard that Mongan appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Tests later confirmed this to be the case.

Police objected to bail as they said they believe he is at risk of reoffending, telling the court that Mongan has been arrested seven times so far this year.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan granted bail because of the exceptional circumstances of the breach.

He will appear again on December 19.
