Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man who attended Strand Road PSNI Station had a tobacco tin with cannabis in it in his pocket.

Darren Beatty (38) of Carlisle Road in Derry admitted a charge of possessing class B drugs on July 21.

The court heard that the defendant had attended the PSNI Station on an unrelated matter and while being searched the tin with the cannabis was found on him.

He told police 'it was just a bit of weed'.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that it was probably not the best thing to have in your pocket while going to a police station.

Beatty was fined £100.
