Derry Magistrate's Court

A Limavady woman will be sentenced in October after she pleaded guilty to an assault on a man in a kebab shop in Derry.

Dionne McCallion (31) of Eventide Gardens in Limavady admitted one charge of assault on December 15 last year.

The court heard that on December 17 the injured party reported to police that he had been assaulted by the defendant in a kebab shop in Shipquay Street on December 15.

He said that around 11.30pm he was waiting to be served when the defendant started being abusive and then became aggressive and started pushing the man.

She then headbutted him and made attempts to headbutt him on several occasions.

The court heard that she made full admissions at interview.

Defence counsel Nicki Rountree said that alcohol was involved in the incident.

She said that the injured party was 'effectively a stranger' to the defendant.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said this was a serious offence made worse by the fact there were 'multiple headbutts and attempted headbutts'.

She adjourned the case until October 13 to allow the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

The defendant was released on continuing bail.
