Derry Magistrate's Court
A woman has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today for assaulting a man she has 'a history' with.
Hannah Duddy (28) of Rockmills in Derry admitted a charge of assault on the man on July 25.
The court heard that police received a report from the injured party that he had been assaulted by the defendant.
The man said that at around 11.40pm he had been outside his apartment when the defendant had come past.
She lives in the same apartment complex.
As she passed the man words were exchanged and then Duddy threw a soft drink can at the man striking him on the chest.
The court heard that punches were then thrown but didn't connect.
A police officer said that Duddy could not be interviewed while in custody due to her behaviour.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client wanted to apologise to police for her behaviour.
He said she felt 'aggrieved' at being in custody and that was why she behaved as she did.
The solicitor said she accepted she threw the can at the man
and this 'clearly is not acceptable behaviour'.
He added that his client would stay away from the man as they lived on different floors.
Duddy was sentenced to two months in prison suspended for 12 months and a Restraining Order for a period of 2 years was imposed.
