Captivating ImageDerry exhibition showcasing local photographers

In partnership with the prestigious annual PhotoIreland Festival 2023, Guildhall Press are presenting ImageDerry – a photographic exhibition relating to Derry by local photographers – between 3 -15 July 2023 in the Ráth Mór Centre mall in Derry’s Creggan area.

Creggan Enterprises have kindly offered space and support to host this striking exhibition which will feature selected images from Derry artists Hugh Gallagher, Brendan McKeever, Willie Curran, Joe McAllister, Raymond Craig  and Phil Cunningham whose collections are curated in the ImageDerry website at www.imagederry.com.

This amazing collection is a warm, nostalgic and moving portrait of an ever-changing city in a period that has included some of the most tumultuous events in modern Irish history.

These very personal images offer a fascinating community perspective of Derry and are an important addition to the city’s cultural and social archive.

The captivating exhibition showcases the rich tapestry that defines the city's vibrant spirit and celebrates the power of photography to capture the heart and soul of a place and its people.

Through their lens, these talented photographers embark on a visual exploration of Derry sharing thought-provoking and creative images that unveil the essence of Derry's streets, from its historic landmarks to its bustling neighbourhoods, and reveal its proud people, protesting wrongs and celebrating life in equal measure.

The PhotoIreland Festival was founded by photographer and academic Ángel Luis González who collaborated with other artists to launch Ireland’s first international PhotoIreland Festival in 2010.

Their aim was to cultivate and showcase contemporary visual arts practices and provide a unique support framework focused on Irish-based artists, the artform and audiences.

ImageDerry has been developed by Guildhall Press, Ireland’s leading independent publishing house with four decades of experience in producing unique publications on Derry’s social, political and cultural history which contain thousands of images of Derry, past and present.

Guildhall Press are supported by the National Lottery Dormant Accounts Fund NI whose generous support greatly enabled the development of ImageDerry at www.imagederry.com.
