Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

A 17-year-old youth has been warned that he was 'going to get a rude awakening' when he turned 18 in December.

The youth appeared charged with breaching his curfew on June 14 by not being at his address when he was supposed to be.

A police officer told Derry Magistrate's Court that the defendant had breached his curfew and then handed himself in to police.

The officer said that due to the defendant's age there was very little the court could do and said he was applying for the youth to be re-released on bail on the same conditions.

He told the court that the youth turned 18 in December.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that this youth was 'a serial offender' and would find things very different when he turned 18.

He released him on bail to appear again on June 20.
