Calls for additional dog wardens to cover Derry

Dog owners run a foul of Tipperary councillors

SDLP Foyleside Councillor Lillian Seenoi Barr has called for additional dog wardens to cover Foyleside and Derry City along with other measures to deal with dog fouling, noting it is a key issue for many residents.

Cllr. Barr said: “I heard time and again on the doorsteps how dog fouling really is a major issue of concern in Foyle Springs and pledged to do something about it during my campaign.

"I am pleased to be able to get straight to work sorting this issue for local residents. I have written to Council to ask that this issue is tackled urgently.

"In the first instance, I have asked Council to place a dog waste bin at the bottom of Springtown Road as a quick short-term measure to help tackle dog waste in the local area.

"I have also suggested that the Council undertake a scoping assessment of the whole area in order to help determine where dog waste bins should be placed and believe it would be useful to explore further educational campaigns on the dangers of dog fouling.

“Many residents have also raised the need for additional dog wardens to help address this issue in the longer-term. The fact that there are only two dog wardens covering the whole district is staggering and will not come close to help address this widespread issue.

"Residents in this area are crying out for clean streets and deserve nothing less. I am committed to doing whatever I can to make that happen.”
