firmus energy to hold information session this week in Eglinton

John McCorry, firmus energy’s Senior Town Engineer

firmus energy is hosting an information evening in Eglinton Community Hall next Wednesday (May 31) between 6.00pm and 8.00pm to update the public on its plans to bring natural gas to the local area.

The £1.5m investment will see over 1,400 homes and businesses given the opportunity to make the upgrade to natural gas this year and pave the way for a greener future using infrastructure that is ready to transport biomethane and a hydrogen blend gas.

Attendees can access free information and advice, with representatives from firmus energy on hand to answer any questions, including the process of upgrading from oil to natural gas. People will also hear about a range of energy efficiency measures that can help households immediately save on their energy bills.

As part of its plans to introduce natural gas to Eglinton, firmus energy is investing almost £1.5 million. Work to lay over 17 kilometres of mains pipe will take approximately nine months and once it has been completed will pass 1,419 connectable properties by the end of 2023.

John McCorry, firmus energy’s Senior Town Engineer, said: “Bringing our network to Eglinton in 2023 will allow homes and businesses access to all the benefits of natural gas, and as we transition to net zero carbon in the future the local community will be using renewable gases.

‘’firmus energy operates one of the most modern, renewables ready gas networks in the world and is here to ensure a safe and secure supply of natural gas for the future.

“The event on May 31 is an opportunity for anyone considering switching over to natural gas to understand its many wide-ranging benefits, including instant heat and constant hot water. It will also give all locals a chance to discuss our investment and works in the area.

“Once work on the network has been completed, which we estimate to be by December, over 1,400 properties will be able to connect. We would encourage those considering natural gas to attend this event and make use of the expertise in the room.

“As part of our commitment to engaging with local communities we will also provide expert advice on a range of energy savings initiatives that can be easily implemented to make real-time savings on your energy bills,” he added.
